March 20,2008-Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday, sometimes referred to as "Holy Thursday" is the day Jesus had the Last Supper with His disciples. It is considered His last supper because it was the day before He was crucified (Good Friday). Jesus also did something else. He washed the disciples' feet, setting an example that we should love and serve one another in humility.

The word Maundy comes from the Latin word meaning "command", which Jesus gave to the disciples at the Last Supper; to humbly love and serve others. Observing Maundy Thursday is not commanded in the Bible, but is a good thing to remember the Last Supper and His example of humility. It also helps us to focus on what is to come, the betrayal from Judas, the denial from Peter, and the events leading up to the crucifixion of our Lord.
