The Ascension

It is rather appropriate that today is National Day of Prayer because it is also Ascension Day, the day Jesus ascended into heaven to sit on the right hand of God until He comes again, for us. After Jesus' resurrection, He remained here on earth for 40 days. That's 40 days after Easter. He showed others that He is indeed alive. He also taught His disciples about the kingdom of God and promised His followers that they would receive the Holy Spirit. The Ascension is one of the most important events in the church, in my opinion, because it set the pattern for His return. Jesus bodily rose from the ground, gradually and visibly, right in front of many people. You can read about it in the book of Luke, chapter 24, verse 50-51 as well as Acts, Chapter 1, verses 9-11.

It's very meaningful in the church because, not only did it set the pattern for His return, it also symbolized His exaltation by God, the Father, being received up in honor and given a name above all names. Jesus is in heaven right now, which means "being in the presence of God", and He sits on the right hand of God, which is an honor. When He comes for us, He will come exactly like He left on that first Ascension Day. Bodily and visibly in the clouds, and every eye will see. I have always said I didn't want to die and be buried. I want to SEE His coming. I want to see the heavens open, the trumpets sound by the angels and Jesus coming to get me. It's hard to even comprehend the magnificence of this glorious event.
I can hardly wait.
