February 28, 2008-My Parents

"Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with a promise: that it may be well with thee and thou mayest live long on the earth." Ephesions 6:2,3

I love my mother and daddy. I can't say that I always have been obedient. As a child, I caused them grief and concern, like any other child. But, as I look back at my childhood, I think of the disciplines I received from them and why they imposed them on me and I wonder to myself, "How did they stand me?" They are the reason I am who I am now, and it is because of them I know and love God as much as I do. As a child, I certainly didn't realize it, maybe even as a young know-it-all adult, but now I see where it all fits in. Maybe that's what is meant by "seasoned in faith". As I got older, I realized more and more the importance of my upbringing and how it has affected my life. God tells us to honor our parents. He places them in high esteem at His side and demands that we honor and serve them with the highest respect, so He takes it pretty serious when we disobey, hurt, or provoke our parents. So serious, that He says in His Word, "The eye that mocketh at his father and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it."(Proverbs 30:17) At the same time, He promises to bless us in our lives if we obey this commandment. "....that it may be well with thee and thou mayest live long on the earth." (Ephesions 6:3) My mother and daddy are my best friends. It was through them that God gave me life and I will never forget what they have done for me. I just hope I make them as proud of me as I am proud to regard them as a precious gift from God. God bless you, Mother and Daddy. I love you both, and more than that, I will always honor and respect you both.
"Children, obey your parents in all things; for this is well pleasing unto the Lord." Colossians 3:20

You are such a great daughter, what's not to love.

I love your parents because they can take in people like me and show how much love they have no matter what.

Love and miss you bunches,
Donna

Isn't that a great picture of them? It is my favorite one. They look good for being almost 80 and 85, don't you think? God has richly blessed them.
