The Great Commission

Today, my church celebrated Trinity Sunday to honor the Holy Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is always the first Sunday after Pentecost, where the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit first occurred. The Holy Trinity is very important to me, as it should be to all Christians. It's one of the mysteries of God that cannot be rationalized, but can only be accepted by faith. We remember God our Father as our Creator, Jesus, His Son as our Saviour and the Holy Spirit as our Comforter. Along with recognizing the Holy Trinity, comes the Great Commission. Jesus gave this Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20, when He said, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." In my Bible studies, I have learned there are 4 parts to this Great Commission:
1. GO - don't just think about it, do it.
2. MAKE DISCIPLES - tell others about the Grace and Mercy of God, Jesus' love and sacrifice, and the Holy Spirit's comfort and guidance.
3. BAPTIZE - in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
4. TEACH - teach others about God's Word, how it applies to their lives, and most importantly, the only way to eternal life with Him, in acceptance of Jesus, His Son.
To "GO" and "MAKE DISCIPLES" are the commands of the Great Commission. Commands given by Jesus Himself. "BAPTIZING" and "TEACHING" are the means by which we complete the "making of disciples" part of the Great Commission.
My prayer, my friends, is that we all take this Great Commission very seriously. It is one of the greatest purpose of our existence, next to honoring and praising our Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The reward to this obedience is beyond the reach of our human minds. As Jesus said, "And surely, I am with you always..."
