Proud Grandma

I received a letter several weeks ago saying that Chasey had been nominated for being listed in the Who's Who Registry of Academic Excellence (Middle School Edition) This is an organization who honors students throughout the United States who have excelled academically. Their name and biography is placed in a book that is distributed nationally to schools within the U.S.. I was so surprised and so was she. We don't know who nominated her, that apparently is anonymous. After mailing the information form, this organization then confirms the information by whatever means and makes a decision for approval. We received another letter saying that she has been approved for listing in the 2008-2009 edition of the Who's Who Registry of Academic Excellence along side thousands of other top students throughout the United States. This also makes her eligible to compete for scholarships awarded at the end of the school year through the Student Scholarship Foundation. I am so proud of her and secretly I am proud of myself. Here is a child who, five years ago, couldn't care less about school and her grades showed it. I worked hard with her to the point of being driven. I kept close contact with her teachers and every night I sat down with her and "made" her work hard. After being on the honor roll (and me making the biggest deal ever for it) she liked the feeling and each year it got easier to get her to cooperate and realize that doing well in school IS important and can be rewarding. This year, I've left her on her own to see to it that she does well, with little help from me. I wanted her to be a little more independent. So here we are, being recognized for excellence. I am bursting with pride and I'm making the biggest deal about this recognition. She gets a little embarrassed when I tell others about it. But, it is doing wonders for her self-esteem. I promised her five years ago that I would see to it that someday she would be so proud of her accomplishments. Believe me, it hasn't been easy. We would lock horns just about every night that first year. She just didn't want to do it. Then it got a little easier each year. God has definitely shown me the fruits of my labor on this one and she feels so good about herself. That means a lot to me. Below is the picture and the proof that will be in the registry.

Cool, Grandma, and I've heard of that Who's Who Registry, too. Quite an honor for students who get into it. Tell that lil gal to keep up the good work and don't grump when she has to do it. Contrats.
